The National Park Service is collaborating with the Foundation and other District partners at Cedar Creek battlefield on the establishment a new national park partnership, Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park. The Park Service also protects and manages some of the other honored sites of the American Civil War such as Fort Sumter, Manassas, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, Petersburg, and Antietam.

Virginia Civil War Trails Program

The nationally-recognized Civil War Trails program is a private-public partnership that provides interpretive wayfinding and signage for Civil War sites throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and is expanding into Maryland. “(These signs) are definitely not your great-grandfather’s historic markers,” says the Washington Post. “With clear maps and engaging text, the dining-room-table-size markers are full of multimedia touches—photos, drawings and quotes complement the text.”

Shenandoah Valley Travel Association

For more than 80 years, the Shenandoah Valley Travel Association has served as a regional coordinator of the Shenandoah Valley’s tourism promotion effort. It publishes the Shenandoah Valley Travel Guide, maintains a website to help visitors plan their travel in the Valley, and operates the Shenandoah Valley Tourist Information Center at Exit 264 off Interstate 81 (open during business hours every day of the week).
